Ethical code

Ianus - Law and Finance is a peer- reviewed scientific journal inspired by the ethical norms of behavior and the standards indicated by the "Committee on Publication Ethics" (COPE) in the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors at the following web page: https://publicationethics.org/guidance/Guidelines.
The entire Management of the Journal is in line with the spirit of the COPE recommendations, with the aim of taking all possible measures against negligence and ensuring good ethical practices in the publication process. In particular, all the parties involved - Management, Editors, Authors and Referees - are expected to be aware of and share the following ethical principles.

Duties of Managing and Editorial Boards
  • Decisions on publication
The Managing Board is responsible for the decision wheter or not to publish the articles proposed to the Journal on the basis of a double-blind peer review made by an expert reviewer (referee). In its decisions, the Managing Board is required to respect the strategies and editorial approach of the Journal. It is also bound by the laws in force on defamation, copyright infringement and plagiarism.

  • Fairness and non-discrimination
Managing Board decides exclusively on the basis of the scientific value, relevance and originality of the content of the article without discrimination based on sex, race, gender, religion, ethnic origin, citizenship, sexual orientation, gender identity, age and political orientation of the authors.

  • Confidentiality, conflict of interest and prohibition of use or disclosure
Managing and Editorial Boards undertake not to disclose information on the articles proposed for publication to persons other than the author, reviewers and publisher, and agree not to use for their own research the contents of unpublished articles without the express written consent of the Author.
The Journal adopts the double-blind peer review process to ensure that the material submitted remains strictly confidential during the review process.
Managing Board identifies the referees on the basis of competence and trust to have an adequate evaluation of the article for the purpose of publication.

Duties of the Authors of the articles sent to the Journal
  • Scientific originality
The author guarantees that the article submitted for evaluation is unpublished in the proposed language and, wheter already published in another language, shall undertake to promptly notify it.
The Author undertakes that the article is scientifically original and not submitted at the same time to other journals, volumes, or periodicals, without the express consent of the Management.
If the article is going to be published later in other periodicals or volumes, the «Ianus - Law and Finance» Journal must be informed and consent, without prejudice to the express reference to the publication on the same.
The Author is also required to adequately cite the texts used following the editorial rules indicated for publication in the Journal, taking care that the work and / or the words of other authors are adequately paraphrased or quoted literally with appropriate evidence of the sources. Authors are required to follow the editorial rules of the Journal.

  • Integration of the work
Managing Board may ask the Authors for corrections and additions deemed appropriate, also following the anonymous evaluation of the reviewer. In certain cases, the Management may bring the aforementioned anonymous judgment to the attention of the Author. The Authors can express their observations or objections in this regard, which will then be decided by the Managing Board.
The Managing Board reserves the right to make purely editorial changes after the first correction of the proofs, for the homogeneity of publication of the Magazine.

  • Authorship of the work
The authorship of the work must be clear: all those who have made a significant contribution to the creation of the article must appear as co-authors. The contribution made by other people in a significant way to some phases of the research must also be explicitly recognized. In the case of contributions by more than one author, the parts written by each author must be correctly shown clearly.

  • Conflicts of interest
The author must not have any conflicts of interest that could have influenced the results achieved, the arguments supported or the interpretations proposed. The Author must also indicate any financiers of the research or project from which the article derives.

  • Remedy for inaccuracies in the article
If an Author identifies a significant error or inaccuracy in one of his articles, he must promptly inform the Journal and provide all the information necessary to indicate the necessary changes at the bottom or in the appendix of the article. He must also provide for the correction of the manuscript by actively collaborating with the editorial board, even when the report comes directly from Managing or Editorial Boards of the Journal, except in case of agreement with the latter.

Duties of the Referees
  • Contribution to the editorial decision
Peer-review is a procedure that helps the Journal Managing Board to evaluate the scientific quality of the articles proposed, also allowing the Author to improve his / her contribution.

  • Respect for deadlines
Referees who do not feel adequate or sufficiently qualified for the task required to review the research reported in the manuscript or who believe that they are unable to review it within the indicated times is required to communicate it as quickly as possible to the Journal Managing Board, thus withdrawing from the review process.

  • Correctness and objectivity
The peer-review must be carried out correctly and objectively. The Referee is invited to justify his evaluation on the article submitted in an adequate and documented way. Any personal judgment on the Author is inappropriate: it is not allowed to criticize or personally offend an Author. The observations must be technically well formulated and cannot be configured as criticisms of an ideological nature or, in any case, containing scientific-cultural presuppositions of a personal nature. Any statements, observations or arguments reported should preferably be accompanied by a corresponding quotation and / or documentation.

  • Possible indication of texts
The Referee is invited to precisely indicate the bibliographic details of basic works neglected by the Author in the article. He must also report any similarities or overlaps of the text received for reading with other works known to him.

  • Conflict of Interest and Disclosure
Manuscript received for review should be treated as confidential document. It must not be shown or discussed with anyone not previously authorized by the Managing Board.
Confidential information or information obtained during the peer-review process must be considered trustworthy and confidential: it cannot be used for one's own advantage.
The Referee is required not to accept for reading an article for which a conflict of interest emerges due to previous specific relationships of collaboration or competition with the Author (unknown per se, but in any case, identified by deduction) and / or connections with the authors, entities or institutions connected to the manuscript.
